Radnor Park Pond Folkestone

I have fished here many times; the fish are not going to break any records although some non-indigenous creatures caught from time to time (post coming soon).  There is a wealth of fish including tench, card, bream, roach and rud, no reports of crucians though which is always a shame.

It is just outside the main town, so there is a lot of passing traffic and noise. It is not really a cerious fishing ground although to anglers there may disagree. I have had much fun catching carp using corn, meats and bread flakes, which are not allowed to float!

The rules are barbless hook only, no floating baits, no keeps nets, no fishing past 10pm and no ground baiting. Now ground bait to me and most of the population of anglers I know which the exception of the person looking after the pond for that short period, IS THE STUFF THAT IS LIKE POWER AND NOT LOOSE FEED!  Every time I threw in a couple of chunks of corn or a few maggots I would hear this ghastly woman shouting, “No Ground baiting!” This was quite annoying and despite my putting her right, she said it again when I returned the following week.

Anyway this person no longer patrols the pond and it is now ran by a proper bailiff who will happily chat to you, if you are thinking of becoming a member. Otherwise it is only £3 (I think) a day to fish there and I think it is a great little lake to bring my niece and nephew (6 and 11) to get them interested in the sport.

This is one of the fish I bagged on the pole with bread NOT FLOATING! I was slightly more hairy then lol.
It was around 4lb not sure exactly but it was in mint condition with out a mark or a scale missing.

The pond is closed at the moment with a Algae problem see here

Well Ladies and Gents its official, I am a famous fisherman!

Last year I was fishing on my usual spot of the Hythe Royal Military canal when I turned around and much to my surprise I noticed some chap taking pictures of me. Well I don’t know about you, but this is the first time this has happened to me.

I said to him ‘can I help you there mate?’ he lowered his camera and replied. “Sorry mate, do you mind if I take a few photos? My name is Bill Rushmer from the Anglers mail and I have been told to come down and do a column on this section of the Royal Military Canal”. So I said “Yeah, No Problem” as I was trying to cover up the hole in my cheap Argos brolly.

Then I have an idea. “I have my net of fish here if you want to see?”  Well Bill Jumped at that proposal and he offered me a section in the magazine divulging the tips and tricks that I had building up of the last several year (I didn’t think until later on that this might have been a bad idea but luckily he didn’t print all of the info I gave him) . His wife Virginia then appears with a slightly more professional camera and started taking snaps of my catch. Virginia appeared that week on the front of that week’s Anglers Mail with a Specimen Grass carp I believe. ‘And who said women can’t fish?!’

So, everyone here I am, as proud as a maggot in meat! Thanks Bill
